Cunningham Stone was proud to act as stonemasonry contractor for the extensive refurbishment of Savoy Place, the historic home of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Originally completed in 1889, the project involved a sensitive programme of heritage works including steam and nebulous cleaning, lime mortar repointing, brick repairs, and the design, supply and installation of intricately carved Portland stone masonry, restoring the building’s architectural character while ensuring its continued use as a landmark on the north bank of the River Thames.
Cunningham Stone was proud to serve as the stonemasonry contractor for the extensive refurbishment of Savoy Place, home to the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), originally completed in 1889. The project combined heritage preservation with modern functionality, encompassing steam and nebulous cleaning, lime mortar repointing, brick repairs, and the design, supply, and installation of Portland stone masonry with intricately carved details.
Our work revealed the original beauty of the building’s stonework, restored worn elements, and introduced subtle modern touches while respecting the structure’s historical character. The result is a harmonious blend of elegance and practicality, ensuring Savoy Place continues to stand as a landmark on the north bank of the River Thames, ready to serve the IET and future generations alike.
